Singing
If you are looking to train as a professional vocalist or just for fun, The Deans Academy has something to offer all budding singers. We cater for all styles; Classical, Musical Theatre, Jazz or Pop. All of these singing genres have the same fundamental vocal foundation.
Alistair's own education and experience has lead to an extensive knowledge of the technical, biological and theoretical facets of vocal coaching. In 2003 he gained his Diploma with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Vocal Teaching. At present Alistair is working towards a Level 6 Licentiate qualification with the London College of Music.
Through the ABRSM exam board we offer the Classical Voice Syllabus or LCM exam board for Musical Theatre Exams. We also offer support, guidance and mentoring for those wishing to audition for professional Performing Arts Colleges and Universities.
Music Theory
The Deans Academy understands the importance of Music Theory within the Performing Arts and how this can benefit the Modern Musical Theatre Practitioner. Alistair has a passion for writing and understanding the musical score.
For 8 years, Alistair has taught Music Theory at the Italia Conti Academy to over 50 Diploma students a year. Using the ABRSM workbooks as a basis, Alistair uses many tried and tested resources to aid learners.
Lessons can be tailored to suit beginners or more advanced students. Students wishing to take GCSE, A-level will find these lessons highly beneficial as well as those needing to achieve Grade 5 prerequisite for ABRSM practical exams.
Piano
The Academy offers limited places for Piano lessons.
We use the ABRSM Classical Piano Syllabus and Alistair is keen to impart his knowledge; the importance of scales and arpeggios which strengthen knowledge of keys and chords helping with sight reading and composition. He recommends Music Theory alongside practical piano exercises and varied repertoire.
Students are carefully tutored and can work towards exams whilst being encouraged to explore many different and enjoyable styles.
